Vårdkartan - Bringing AI in Healthcare Into Focus

AI initiatives are clearly expanding across many areas of society. Yet until now, there has been no clear overview of the efforts taking place within Swedish healthcare. This lack of visibility has made it harder to share knowledge, collaborate, and learn from one another’s experiences. Vårdkartan addresses this gap. Building on the success of the earlier Kommunkartan project, which mapped AI initiatives at the municipal level, this new site focuses on the healthcare sector.

The Challenge: Support Transparency and AI Innovation in the Healthcare Sector

AI Sweden’s goal is to make it easier to discover relevant projects, promote knowledge exchange, and spark collaboration. Just as importantly, they aim to involve the community—inviting users to report new initiatives and contribute to a shared, growing resource. By offering a clear and accessible overview, Vårdkartan supports greater transparency and continuous innovation in healthcare AI.

The Solution: One service covering two main user needs

Datastory developed a concept tailored to two main user needs: those seeking a broad overview of AI initiatives and those looking for detailed information on specific projects. To support both, Vårdkartan offers multiple data views and flexible filtering options. The platform is powered by data that AI Sweden can easily manage and update using our Data Manager tool, which ensures the information stays organized, current, and reliable.

The platform features an interactive map, a regional list, and two bubble charts, making it easy to explore the AI healthcare landscape from different perspectives. Users can filter the data by application area, type of AI technology, or geographic location. Each initiative includes key details such as its purpose, current status, and contact information, offering a practical resource for anyone interested in the growing field of healthcare AI.
